HIGHLAND-WHITE LAKE BUSINESS ASSOCIATION
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

MISSION STATEMENT

PURPOSE: To provide at least one scholarship to a deserving student within the Highland-White Lake Business Association primary service area annually, based on eligibility requirements/guidelines as agreed upon by the Highland-White Lake Business Association Board of Directors.

OBJECTIVE: Organize and acquire support of the business community in the townships of Highland, Milford, White Lake and the Village of Milford, located therein to organize, staff and fund a perpetual scholarship program on behalf of the Highland-White Lake Business Association and the business community.

GOALS: 1. Enlist support of all interested parties, in the business and private sectors, to establish and maintain a perpetual scholarship program.

2. Award at least one scholarship to a deserving student at the end of the school year, to be presented at the Highland-White Lake Business Association July Membership Lunch.

3. Successfully acquire funds to continue programs annually using interest from fund principal maintained by the Scholarship Committee of the Highland-White Lake Business Association.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for consideration by the Highland-White Lake Business Association Scholarship Fund Program, an applicant must meet at least one of the following requirements:

• A current Lakeland High School senior;

• A current Milford High School senior; • A current Harbor High School senior;• A high school senior attending a private school within the Highland-White Lake Business Association’s primary service area;**

• A high school senior attending a private school elsewhere, but residing within the Highland-White Lake Business Association’s primary service area.;**

• A member of the business community within the Highland-White Lake Business Association’s primary service area** that desires to further their education, and who demonstrates a commitment to the community.

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

A minimum of one scholarship of $1000.00 will be awarded each year in the spring, for use during the next scholastic year beginning in the fall. The Board of Directors reserve the right to increase the number of scholarships awarded to no more than three of $1000.00 each, provided sufficient funds have been acquired to fund the awards.

** Highland-White Lake Business Association’s primary service area includes the townships of Highland, Milford, White Lake, and the Village of Milford.

CRITERIA

To receive the Highland-White Lake Business Association Scholarship, an eligible recipient must:

• Practice a strong commitment to respect for the family, concern for the community and high ethical and moral standards.

• Participate as a volunteer in activities of his or her choosing for the benefit of the community.

• Participate in extra-curricular activities, such as music, theater, debate, athletics, or be employed at least part-time.

• Enroll in a field of study that will enable him or her to utilize the benefits of their higher education as an employer or employee within the Highland-White Lake Business Association’s primary service area.

ADMINISTRATION OF THE FUND

As principal fund raiser and trustee of the fund, the Highland-White Lake Business Association shall appoint a Scholarship Advisory Committee, consisting of representatives from the business, civic and education communities, where possible, on an annual basis. The committee, upon direction of the Highland-White Lake Business Association Board of Directors, will review scholarship applications and make its final recommendations to the Board of Directors prior to the June membership dinner.
